MR compatible Medical Devices
During the last decade many efforts have been undertaken to advance the field of interventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). One important goal of these efforts is to succeed in performing interventional endovascular procedures under complete MRI guidance, thereby replacing conventional X-ray fluoroscopy. Excellent soft tissue contrast, the ability to perform vessel wall imaging, more biocompatible contrast agents, and the lack of radiation for patient and physician are some of the many advocates for using MRI instead of X-ray technology in the interventional suite. Despite the progress that has been made, only very few endovascular products have been developed for application in humans. In this context, the largest hurdle to overcome has been the shortage of MR-compatible devices.MagnaMedics is concentrating its efforts on facilitating imaging standard devices such as catheters and guide wires for the use in the MR scanners.
